Square Inn has emerged from deep roots in the Hills of Wimberley. From small beginnings in the early 1990’s to the surprise of a very large family, Square Inn is truly a family business.  People may not know the history behind Square Inn at 110 Oak Drive on the Wimberley Square, but each guest is delighted by the hospitality of a family business that began over 25 years ago.

Those many years ago, Marcilia Anderson-Bishop was a working mom with three small children, she saw and fulfilled the need for a qualified child care center in the area by opening The Learning Center.  Soon after, a surprise of expectant ‘twins’!  As she went into delivery, the doctor found that she carried not one, not two, but three precious baby boys!  Suddenly her family of three children became six!

The Learning Center became an extended family for Marcilias’ children as well as many families in the Wimberley Community.  The The Learning Center sponsored the Head Start program into Wimberley, initiated the Wimberley Fallfest and sponsored the beginnings of the Wimberley Merchant Association. The Center was embraced by the community, and grew with the attendance of more than 180 children. After nearly a decade of running the child care center, Marcilia sold the business and leased the property to pursue other business and family endeavors.

In 2010, the building suffered major damage after a water main break. The near destruction of her building brought Marcilia back to the Wimberley Square where she and her children teamed up to convert the child care center into the Square Inn, a boutique hotel right on the square. The Square Inn opened later that year.

Evidence of family love and teamwork is all around the Inn.  Someone in the family will prepare a homemade, hot breakfast for a delicious start to your day.  There’s also a spacious lounge, library with records and a relaxing courtyard for your enjoyment.         Just right out the front door are restaurants, shops, wine tasting and the outdoor fun that Wimberley has to offer.

Today, the Wimberley hotel's rooms are named after Marcilia's children as they have grown up in that building and are now off on their own adventures, some now married and serving in the military. But they often come back ‘home’ and run the Inn.  Each room has well-appointed décor, pillow-topped beds with heavenly 1800ct sheets, refrigerator, microwave, free WiFi and flat screen TV.

"I have met some fascinating people and love sharing the Wimberley Valley's beauty and activities," Marcilia said.  “I am truly blessed for my growing family and my husband, Lloyd.”

Square Inn stands as a witness to the love of family and all that family members can accomplish together.

“So the next time you visit the Hill Country…come Stay the Wimberley (Family) Way!"
